General Manager/Vice President Engineering & Design – Turbine Aeronautics

Main Purpose of the Role

Turbine Aeronautics is seeking an experienced Senior Propulsion Engineer to undertake the leadership role in the design, analysis, prototyping and testing of “clean sheet” & existing advanced small turboprop and turbofan gas turbine engines for the Recreational Aviation and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle markets.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the founders and senior management to establish a world class design and manufacturing business for advance turbine engines in the aerospace domain.

  • Establish the technical (research and development) department for the Company.

  • Draft, manage and supervise programs to develop “clean sheet” designs or undertake the refinement/optimization of existing designs for a family of small turboprop and turbofan engines for the Recreational Aviation and civilian/military UAV markets from concept through to final testing and definition of the commercial engine.

  • Lead a team of in-house and contract designers in developing conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs of small gas turbine engines.

  • Responsible for design configuration including cost, weight and producability requirements of the products.

  • Participate on and lead a multidisciplinary integrated product team to develop and produce new hardware associated with small gas turbine engines.

  • Identify, recruit and lead a team of engineers to undertake the above mentioned tasks.

  • Provide advice to senior Company management in relation to technical issues.

  • When required be the “Front Man” for the Company for all technical matters.

  • Be responsible for quality and continuous improvement of internal processes.

  • Be responsible for providing oversight of outsourced vendors including approving the work at the appropriate review gates.

 

Qualifications:

 

Basic Qualifications for the position are:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is required; M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferable will be highly regarded;

  • 10 plus years’ experience working in Mechanical Design & Structural Analysis is required

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in developing and managing an aviation centric small gas turbine engine development program at a senior level in a major company,

  • Management experience of teams of engineers, mechanics etc.,

  • The ability to utilize FEA (finite element analysis) to enable rapid design iterations of new and existing components, including turbomachinery, combustion devices, and structural elements,

  • Experience performing detailed design of propulsion components and dynamic, structural, and thermal analysis of turbo-machinery components.

  • CAD expertise in SolidWorks, Catia or similar is strongly preferred.

  • FEA and CFD knowledge and expertise in ANSYS, Nastran or similar is strongly preferred.

  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely in technical and non-technical terms, both verbally and in written form.

  • Be skilled in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.
